Nootropil (Piracetam)

Nootropil (Piracetam) is a nootropic medication that has a stimulating effect on the brain, improves blood circulation and metabolic processes of the brain. It increases microcirculation and metabolic processes of ischemic areas of the brain.  Nootropil will reduce the duration of vestibular nystagmus.

Indication for use

Nootropil (Piracetam) can be taken by almost all adults and children over 1 for symptomatic treatment of memory disorders, intellectual disorders in the absence of a diagnosis of dementia; in the treatment of cortical myoclonia as part of complex therapy or as a single drug.

Precautions

Nootropil (Piracetam) is not recommended to use if you have hypersensitivity to the components of the medication, hemorrhagic stroke, severe renal dysfunction, children’s age up to 1 year, pregnancy and the period of lactation.

Dose and usage

The Dose of Nootropil (Piracetam) is available in various forms:

Tablets: 800mg, 1200mg – white, oblong, flat.

Solution for injection of 20%: liquid in ampoules of 5ml or 15 ml. 

The drug is prescribed orally, during meals or on an empty stomach. Symptomatic treatment of the psycho-organic syndrome: 2.4-4.8 g / day in 2-3 doses. Treatment of dizziness and related imbalance: 2.4-4.8 g / day in 2-3 doses. Treatment of cortical myoclonia begins with a dose of 7.2 g / day, every 3-4 days the dose is increased by 4.8 g / day until a maximum dose of 24 g / day is achieved in 2-3 doses. Treatment continues throughout the period of the disease. Prevention of sickle cell vaso-occlusive crisis: the daily dose is 160 mg / kg body weight, divided into 4 equal doses. Treatment of dyslexia in children (as part of complex therapy): the recommended daily dose for children from 8 years old and adolescents is 3.2 g, divided into 2 doses.

Side effects

Under the influence of Nootropil patients can afflict with some side effects:  irritability, motor disinhibition, drowsiness, depression, asthenia, dizziness, ataxia, smut pain, exacerbation of epilepsy, agitation, anxiety, increased sexual desire, hallucinations, weight gain, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, allergic reactions are observed. To eliminate side symptoms in most cases, you just need to reduce the dosage.
