Trinex (Triclabendazole)

Trinex (Triclabendazole) is a narrow-spectrum anthelmintic agent used to treat fascioliasis, paragonimiasis and less commonly other trematodoses. The medication acts not only on adults, but also kills parasites at the larval stage. The mechanism of action has not been fully understood, but it has been proven that the drug inhibits the functioning of the muscular system of helminths, resulting in paralysis and death.

Indication for use

Trinex (Triclabendazole) can be taken by almost all adults and children over 6 who have opisthorchiasis and fascioliasis, affecting the hepatic flukes. In addition, it is used as an alternative agent for paragonimiasis (pulmonary flukes), showing no less effectiveness than praziquantel, which is often used for this purpose.

Precautions

Trinex (Triclabendazole) is not recommended to use if you have hypersensitivity to the components of the medication, renal and liver failure, pregnancy and the period of lactation.

Dose and usage

The Dose of Trinex (Triclabendazole) is 250mg – pink, oblong, flat tablets with line in the middle.

In case of fascioliasis: adults and children over 6: 10 mg per 1 kg of body weight, a single dose, or in case of severe infection twice with a break of 12 or 24 hours;

In case of paragonimiasis: adults and children over 6 – 5 mg per kg of body weight in the form of a single dose.

The maximum dose of 38 mg per kg of body weight of uninfected volunteers did not have serious consequences. For children, the acceptable dose is 20 mg per kg of body weight. A second course can be prescribed if the first treatment is not completely rid of the infection. If necessary, treatment can be repeated after 2 weeks or 6 months.

Side effects

After taking Trinex (Triclabendazole) side effects occur very rare. But sometimes you can feel nausea, dizziness, digestive upset, cough, allergic reactions in the form of urticaria, headaches.
