Dulcolax exists in two forms: tablets and as rectal suppositories. The pills of Diamox come in the round shape of white or yellow colors depending on the manufacturer. The rectal suppositories of Diamox come in an elongated shape of white color. The usual dosage for one tablet, which contains bisacodyl, is 5 mg. The usual dosage for one rectal suppository is 10 mg. The medicine belongs to the group of laxative means. Its active component is bisacodyl.

Pharmacological use

Dulcolax is a local laxative with an antiresorptive effect. This drug increases the secretion of water and electrolytes in the large intestine after hydrolysis accelerates and increases its peristalsis. This leads to the stimulation of bowel movements, a decrease in evacuation time and softening of the stool. The action is due to direct stimulation of nerve endings in the mucous membrane of the large intestine.
