Avapro (Irbesartan)

Avapro (Irbesartan)  is a medication that represents angiotensin receptor blockers class. It is used
to treat hypertension and kidney problems (diabetic nephropathy) caused by
diabetes. By the action of Avapro (Irbesartan) 
the blood vessels relax and blood flows more easily, as a result – the
high blood pressure lowers. Moreover, this medication prevents heart attacks,
strokes and kidney disorders.

Indication for use

Avapro
(Irbesartan) can be taken by almost all adults
and teenagers over 18 who have:

·      
Arterial
hypertension,

·      
nephropathy with
arterial hypertension type 2 diabetes mellitus (as part of combination
antihypertensive therapy)

Precautions

Avapro (Irbesartan)  is
not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity to irbesartan or any
component of the medication; lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose
malabsorption; pregnancy; lactation period;

Dose and usage

Dose of Avapro (Irbesartan): 75 mg, 150mg, 300mg
– white oval-shaped tablet with heart squeeze on it.

The tablet is
swallowed whole, washed down with water. The initial and maintenance dose is
150 mg 1 time / day, independently on the meal time. The use of the tablet in
this dose provides a more optimal 24-hour blood pressure control than at a dose
of 75 mg / day. However, in some cases, especially in patients on hemodialysis,
or in patients over the age of 75, the initial dose should be 75 mg.

In patients with
arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus, treatment should be started
with a dose of 150 mg 1 time / day and gradually increased to 300 mg – the dose
that is the preferred maintenance dose for the treatment of nephropathy.

Side effects

Avapro (Irbesartan) is a
safety medication but as others medication it can cause some risks: arterial
hypertension, dizziness, fatigue, asthenia, tachycardia, cough, pain in the
chest, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, heartburn, and headache.
