Keflex (Cefalexin)

Keflex (Cefalexin) –  is a
semisynthetic antibiotic-cephalosporin of the 1st generation. It acts
bactericidal (kills microbes), inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell
walls. Used in treatment of respiratory infections and ear infections

Indication for use

Keflex (Cefalexin)  can be taken by almost all adults and children
over 12 who have:

·       
otorhinolaryngological
infections (pharyngitis, otitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis);

·       
respiratory tract
infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema and lung abscess);

·       
infections of the
genitourinary system (including pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis,
prostatitis);

·       
infections of the
skin and soft tissues (including furunculosis, abscess, pyoderma,
lymphangiitis);

·       
infections of bones
and joints (osteomyelitis).

Precautions

Keflex (Cefalexin)   is not recommended to use if you have: an
allergy to cephalosporins, as well as penicillins, carbapenems;   intolerance to active / auxiliary components;
infection of the brain / spinal cord; lactation period. In case of pregnancy
you have to consult with your doctor.

Dose and usage

Keflex (Cefalexin)   can be
of different doses: 250mg and 500mg – yellow or sometimes green and white
capsules.  There is also Keflex
(Cefalexin)   suspension – 100 ml tanned
bottle (5mlof suspension consists 250 mg of Cefalexin).

Before taking this
medication consult with your attending physician.

The standard dose for
adults and children over 12 years old is 250-500 mg every 6 or 12 hours. The
average daily dose is 1 g, the maximum is 4 g. Standard course of treatment –
7-14 days. The medication should be taken orally 30-40 minutes before mealtime,
do not chew the capsule, drink plenty of water.

Side effects

As any others
medications Keflex (Cefalexin)   can have
in some cases side effects such as:
abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness,
headache, agitation, itching of the genital organs and anus, vaginitis,
arthralgia, arthritis, reversible interstitial nephritis, genital candidiasis,
pseudomembranous colitis, allergic reactions, rash.

Tell your doctor if
you have some side effects or your condition worsens.
